The small boat sails slowly through the current. The sun casts a shadow on the water sparkling brilliant reflect into my eyes. I look at life in this Ping River basin; while I walk among old wooden house. It's a charming city of Lanna still visible to date.

The historical evidence is still left records that Gate temple is a traditional community in the east of the Ping River and the trade center of the former Lanna Kingdom. Ping River is like arterial lifeblood of people living both sides .it is important in the economy; particularly in the transport by water during the trips are no railroads. Each day, the goods from the upper cities were sent pass the port of Gate temple to southern cities. So, there are a lot of foreigners always come to this community especially the group of Chinese merchants who have important role as social and cultural than other people effect to the long term development of Gate temple community.

This travel route started from Chiang Mai – Lamphun road, in the dawn at Somneuk Gopee bicycle coffee shop, the coffee shop in the ancient atmosphere in the 108 years old wooden house. In the past, Mr. Somnuek Tanapirom. (Shop owner) rode the old bicycle to sale coffee in this area and on the walking street with traditional coffee equipment hanging on the rear bicycle. Concentration of flavors and delicious authentic Thai coffee, bitter and sweet without sugar from spread widely saying always give him the response from coffee lovers .Until, he chose the location on the foot of Ping River to open a small coffee shop with the intention that he wish the new generations to taste the ancient traditional coffee recipes.

เรือลำน้อยวิ่งฝ่าสายน้ำไปอย่างช้าๆ แสงอาทิตย์ทอดเงาลงบนผืนน้ำเป็นประกายระยิบระยับสะท้อนเข้าสู่สายตาของผม เมื่อเหลือบมองวิถีชีวิตลุ่มน้ำปิงสายนี้ในขณะที่สองเท้าเดินอยู่ท่ามกลาง อาคารบ้านไม้เก่าๆนับว่าเป็นเสน่ห์ของเมืองล้านนาที่ยังคงปรากฏให้เห็นจนถึง ทุกวันนี้

ตามหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่ยังคงหลงเหลืออยู่บันทึกเอาไว้ว่า วัดเกตเป็นชุมชนโบราณทิศตะวันออกของแม่น้ำปิง ศูนย์กลางความเจริญของอาณาจักรล้านนาในอดีตมีย่านการค้าที่มีความเจริญ รุ่งเรืองมาก แม่น้ำปิงเปรียบเสมือนเส้นเลือดใหญ่หล่อเลี้ยงประชากรที่อาศัยอยู่ทั้งสอง ฟากฝั่งจึงมีความสำคัญในด้านเศรษฐกิจ การคมนาคม โดยเฉพาะด้านการเดินทางขนส่งทางน้ำในช่วงที่ยังไม่มีเส้นทางรถไฟ แต่ละวันมีสินค้าจากหัวเมืองต่างๆทางตอนบนลงสู่แม่น้ำปิงที่ท่าวัดเกตไปสู่ หัวเมืองต่างๆทางตอนใต้ ชุมชนนี้จึงมีคนต่างบ้านต่างเมืองเดินทางผ่านไปมาอยู่เสมอและมีพัฒนาการทาง สังคมและวัฒนธรรมที่ยาวนานโดยเฉพาะกลุ่มพ่อค้าชาวจีน มีความสำคัญทั้งบทบาททางสังคมและวัฒนธรรมมากกว่าคนกลุ่มอื่น ชุมชนวัดเกตจึงอยู่ท่ามกลางบริบทอันหลากหลายทั้งทางเศรษฐกิจ สังคมและวัฒนธรรม

เส้นทางท่องเที่ยวในครั้งนี้เริ่มต้นจาก ถ.เชียงใหม่-ลำพูน ในยามเช้าตรู่ที่ร้าน กาแฟรถถีบโบราณสมนึกโกปี๊ ร้านกาแฟโบราณในบรรยากาศบ้านไม้เก่าแก่อายุกว่า 108 ปี เดิมทีคุณสมนึก ธนาภรณ์ภิรมย์ (เจ้าของร้าน) ขี่จักรยานโบราณขายกาแฟในละแวกนี้ และย่านถนนคนเดินพร้อมอุปกรณ์การชงกาแฟแบบโบราณห้อยอยู่ด้านท้ายรถ รสชาติความอร่อยความเข้มข้นของกาแฟไทยในแบบฉบับ ขม หวาน มันปราศจากน้ำตาล จากคำบอกเล่าปากต่อปากไม่ว่าปั่นจักรยานไปขายที่ใดก็ได้รับการตอบรับจากคอ กาแฟเสมอมา จนกระทั่งเลือกทำเลริมแม่น้ำปิงเปิดร้านกาแฟเล็กๆโดยมีความตั้งใจเอาไว้ว่า อยากให้คนรุ่นหลังได้ชิมกาแฟโบราณสูตรดั้งเดิม
